Remedyuk.org Lobby of Parliament
24/04/2007

Hundreds of doctors gathered together today at the House of Commons to lobby their MP over the complete shambles and injustice of too few training jobs for doctors. This debacle is affecting not just Junior doctors but many who have been in training already for 10 or more years. The potential loss of professional expertise, passion and motivation let alone the waste of tax payers money is a catastrophe.
MP’s Ian Gibson (Labour), Andrew Lansley (Conservative) and Norman Lamb (Lib Dems) all spoke at the rally which was held opposite Parliament, with every speaker expressing their frustration with the situation. Doctors told 2020health that they had no idea whether they would have a training job to go to on August 1st. RemedyUK are also highlighting the fact that on that date, every single junior doctor will be changing jobs, meaning that there could be no continuity of care for people who are in hospital.

RemedyUK are asking for
• MPs to sign the new EDM asking for an increase in training posts.
• MPs to write to the Secretary of State for Health Patricia Hewitt to establish an independent Standing Commission on workforce planning for doctors.
• Chief Executives to state how they are going to provide for patient care on the day that all juniors start their new posts.

Do you think that a Standing Commission should be the way forward?
Do you think that NHS Employers, part of the NHS Confederation, should have taken a more pro-active role?
Where would be the best place for a body that forecasts and implements employment numbers to be sited?
