Revealing the truth
16/1/2007
We have been compiling the results of our invitation to report on clinician cuts in your area. Last Autumn we asked you to let us know what's happening in your local health trust. There had been huge differences between the Government and Unison among others as to how many staff were going to lose their jobs. We have heard from people giving details on 33 NHS Trusts so far and would like to hear from afew more.
Quite a number of Trusts when contacted to confirm figures were not prepared to give figures until nearer the year end, and many would not seperate numbers of clinicians from other staff when giving total numbers of redundancies or freezing of posts. Interesting revelations so far:
One Trust confirming 51 Clinical staff to lose their jobs asked for notice of our publication so they could 'manage the publicity'.
Another reported all admin staff at the Breat Clinic being laid off, but no clinicians. So we are left wondering who will actually run the clinic, or is it a service that will be no longer offerred?
The largest number we have heard of so far is 480 posts over 18 months at Epsom and St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. Again this figure has not been detailed into the number of clinicians being effected, or compulsory redundancies. But this is a significant proportion of the workforce there.
So please do keep your reports coming for a little longer and then we will publish all our feedback here on line in a couple of weeks time.
