The Public Service Improvement Policy Group has launched their interim report and consultation, proposing to support growth in the public services and trust professionals. The policy group was set up by David Cameron last January and is being chaired by Stephen Dorrell and Baroness Perry looking specifically at Health, Social Care, Education and Social Housing.
The Wellbeing of the Nation sets our four ‘core values’ which will guide the more detailed policy proposals to be announced in July 2007.
The consultation closes on November 24th 2006.
Here are some questions contained in the report for consultation:
| Health |
- How should recruitment and training policies be managed to ensure that properly qualified staff are available to meet future requirements?
- How should greater patient engagement in the commissioning process be achieved?
- How should the GP’s role in the commissioning of secondary care be developed?
- What are the likely implications for health policy of the next generation of drugs and treatments currently under development?
|
| Social Care |
- How can we encourage greater take-up of qualification rates for the social care workforce?
- Should local authorities have a legitimate, strategic role in co-ordinating long-term capacity and development?
- How can the principle of direct purchasing best be applied to residential as well as home care?
- What interventions can be put in place at a local level to drive the necessary cultural change of social care being ‘owned’ by the local community?
