NHS Food

Name: Paddy Germain
Comments:The cost of providing food must be enormous. Here then is an opportunity for saving and at the same time improving quality. Why should food be free to all in hospitals? People living at home accept they must buy their own food. Why then do they expect not to have to pay for it because they are in hospital? A reasonable (and probably still modest) charge should generate a substantial income which must be used to provide improved quality and variety. This would lead to reduced waste and should enhance patient recovery. (Those that are unable to pay are of course already provided for by welfare benefits.) The only danger is that the cost of administration of such a scheme is allowed to get out of control.  This must not be allowed to happen.
